Working visas are for foreigners travelling to Chile and planning to sign a work contract with an employer who is legally residing in Chile.

For this type of visa the following documents are required (all need to be issued no more than three months prior to departure):

1) Valid passport for the planned duration of the stay in Chile

2) Medical health certificate and Aids test

3) National Police Record

4) A letter explaining the motives and planned locations of the travel, identification of the petitioner, certified description of the economic situation, address in Chile, etc. Furthermore, it is recommended to include the petitioner’s phone number as well as the estimated date of departure

5) Four passport sized photos

6) A work contract that has to be signed in presence of a public notary in Chile. Moreover, the employer needs to present the contract and apply for the visa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Santiago. If the contract is only signed by the employer, the applicant has to refer to this at the Consulate.

7) Complete the form for Resident Visas which can be obtained in the nearest Consulate

The applicant needs to hand in the required documents in advance to the Consulate.

The cost of the visa depends on the nationality of the applicant.

The longest period of residence for this type of visa is two years. If one wishes to remain longer in Chile after the two years, it is necessary to apply for Permanent Residency once in Chile.

Once the visa is issued, the interested person needs to enter Chile within 90 days.
